NaIO4 mediated oxidation followed by β-elimination of two piRNAs and let-7a in testis and ovary. Also β-elimination on mouse and rat piRNAs and let-7a is shown. The identities of the piRNAs are given in each panel. M=marker, U=untreated,β = β-elimination.
