(A) GCaMP5 fluorescence in four optical planes through the olfactory bulb, separated by 20 μm in z. Planes were imaged near-simultaneously at an effective volume rate of 7.5 Hz using a volumetric scanning method based on remote focusing (Methods). For presentation purposes only, images were pre-processed using contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization (Matlab ‘adapthisteq’ function, Rayleigh distribution with Numtiles = [24 24] and nbins = 1024) followed by spatial smoothing (2D Gaussian window, σ = 0.5 pixels). Arrows depict examples of MC somata; not all somata are marked. (B) Rhod-2 fluorescence in an optical plane in Dp. Dots mark somata.
