STATEMENT OF RESEARCH INTERESTS
As an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurobiology and as Assistant Director of UAB's Hugh Kaul Precision Medicine Institute (PMI), I work in the fields of translational medicine, genetics and neurobiology. My lab focuses on understanding how rare de novo genetic mutations cause neurodevelopment disorders in pediatric patients. I develop patient-guided zebrafish models and use artificial intelligence tools to identify drug candidates that can be repurposed to treat patients. I collaborate closely with physicians, foundations, and other researchers to study disease mechanisms and discover drug candidates for clinical trial.
