The nucleus isthmi is a hindbrain nucleus located in the tegmentum of rhombomere 1 close to the secondary gustatory nucleus. It projects to and receives excitatory visual input from the ipsilateral optic tectum and the parvocellular and/or magnocellular superficial pretectal nucleus. (1)
