Definition
The dorsal hypohyal is a small cartilage replacement bone ossifying from the anterodorsal ceratohyal cartilage. Ossification begins on the medial surface of the ceratohyal cartilage at a ligamentous connection to basibranchial 1 (6.8 mm).
