BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH INTERESTS
In our lab we are interested in the identification and characterization of new candidates for polycystic kidney disease and related ciliopathies. To aim this goal we use patient derived fibroblasts and urine derived renal epithelial cells for ciliogenesis and ciliary trafficking studies. We further use the zebrafish to model the disease in knockdown and knockout experiments. We investigate defective cell signaling processes and study the ciliary protein network, with specific interest in the ciliary transition zone at the base of the cilium.

During my master studies in Molecular and Cellular Biology in the group of Prof Bagowski at the University in Leiden, the Netherlands, I gained first interest in the zebrafish model organism. My PhD studies I performed in the group of Prof. Meyer at the Institute of Molecular Biology at the University in Innsbruck, Austria.
