Note
Despite AA similarity and sytenic evidence, the fam213a genes were renamed as selenoprotein u genes because Castellano et al. (2004) demonstrated that unique selenocysteine-containing selenoproteins occur in fish and chicken, but not mammals or worms. The selenoprotein U genes in zebrafish contain these selenocyteine codons, along with the selenocysteine insertion sequence, making them distinct from similar mammalian genes.
