Term Name: target-directed miRNA degradation
Synonyms: target-directed microRNA degradation, TDMD
Definition: The process in which a miRNA is targeted for degradation by a non-coding RNA or mRNA. The binding of an RNA to a target miRNA within a RISC complex results in either ubiquitin-mediated degradation of AGO protein or the displacement of the 3' end of the miRNA, exposing it to nucleases.
