Term Name: protein import into chloroplast stroma
Synonyms: chloroplast stroma protein import, protein transport into chloroplast stroma
Definition: The targeting and import of proteins into the chloroplast stroma. Import depends on ATP hydrolysis catalyzed by stromal chaperones. Chloroplast stromal proteins, such as the S subunit of rubisco, have a N-terminal stromal-import sequence of about 44 amino acids which is cleaved from the protein precursor after import.
