Name: nitric oxide mediated signal transduction
Synonyms: nitric oxide signaling, nitric oxide-mediated signal transduction, NO mediated signal transduction, NO-mediated signal transduction
Definition: An intracellular signaling cassette that starts with production of nitric oxide, detection by receptors/sensors for nitric oxide (such as soluble guanylyl cyclase/sGC) and ends with the activation of downstream effectors that further transmit the signal within the cell. Nitric oxide transmits its downstream effects through either cyclic GMP (cGMP)-dependent or independent mechanisms.
